Marcote 7 is manufactured by Asbury Fluxmaster as a water-based refractory clay wash coating for metal crucibles, skimmers, metal ladles, sow molds and other metal components in contact with molten metal.
Marcote 7 forms a refractory coating over metal surfaces used in foundry work that protects them from spalling and degradation by exposure to molten metal. Marcote 7 will keep your melt from picking up metal flakes from a metal crucible. It will also greatly extend the life of your pipe crucible and make it easier to clean after use. A coating of Marcote 7 will generally last for a heat or two. If allowed to cool slowly in the furnace after use, it is possible to extend the life of the coating. The material is easily scraped clean for re-application as required. (If you have need for a long lasting ceramic coating for metal, graphite or castable take a look at ITC Ceramic Coatings).
BCS's Marcote 7 comes in a quart can. Simply mix it with 3 1/2 cups of water to make a ready to use quart. Clean the surfaces to be coated thoroughly and remove all scale and deposits. Pre-heat your crucible or other tool to 200 deg F. and brush on a through coating. Put it back in the oven for 1 hour more and allow the coating to completely dry prior to use. Close up the can and the remaining material will keep for a long time.
