Brass Casting Foundry Flux

- KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN -

Description:

BCS Brass Casting Flux is a professional grade, cover and drossing flux for use in brass and bronze casting. It is manufactured by Synex Inc. and sold to the foundry industry as BA-315 Brass / Bronze Flux (tm). This flux reduces metal oxidation, promotes separation of dross from metal, and reduces gas levels in molten metal.

What It Does:

Flux is a necessity when using scrap material in the melt. It helps impurities and slag (crud) float to the top of the melt. It also creates a floating layer on top of the molten metal that protects the molten metal from oxidation.

When the metal has melted the dross layer is skimmed off and the flux is stirred in. After the flux has had time to react, the final dross is skimmed off to reveal a clean, mirror like pool of molten metal. This process will result in a better surface finish and improved material strength in your part.

Using a good flux helps to recover metal that would otherwise be stuck to the dross and lost in skimming. Can be used in hot crucibles or reverb furnaces.

How To Use It:

Only a small quantity is needed (see chart below). Use 3 to 5 oz. of flux per 100 lb. of molten metal, depending on cleanliness of the melt.

Apply all the flux on top of the molten charge. Allow to it rest for about 1 minute while it comes up to the temperature of the molten metal. Then carefully stir the flux into the melt and allow to sit for about 2 minutes while the dross floats to the top. Skim the dross from the melted charge. The metal is now ready to be poured.

For small batch use the following amounts are recommended:

Fluxing Tool:

A good way to apply small amounts of flux to the molten charge is to use a fluxing tool. Here's how to make one.
