This is a book that every sand caster should have. It's a very complete guide to sand casting, written by someone who has done it for a living.
This book explains the process from the basics thru more advanced topics in a non-technical manner. There is no math or "theory", just practical methods. Especially interesting are the recipes for green sand (water bonded molding sand), core binders, core pastes and more. There is a list of casting defects and causes that is also helpful.

- Uncle Sam
This is the way our Navy foundry strikers learn the ropes. The Navy Department Bureau of Ships wrote the book on practical foundry work. The Manual documents what they learned about designing a casting, pattern making, sands for molds and cores, making molds, making cores, gating risers and chills, operation of furnaces, pouring castings, cleaning castings, identifying casting defects, heat treatment and more.

BCS Detail Drawings
Detail drawings are plans that a machinist would use to fabricate the metal parts. These plans show in standard drawing format the burner designs that "Gas Burners" (above) book lays out so well in words. The plans are not meant to replace the book, just present another way of looking at the construction. The book is still needed to understand the many fabrication techniques, parts list, and assembly instructions. Click HERE for a look at an example of the drawings.
